Then you can open your model with the fake hand painted texture and add a layer in overlay or mix mode and 3D paint it for the subtle touches, then composite your two textures to get your final texture. Then you convert the normal map into a a curvature and curvature smooth maps in Substance Designer or in Blenderįake hand painting by using color ramps and analogous colors or do that in Photoshop: To save time on the microdetails I use procedural texture project in Object coordinate with a low blend then I connect it to the displacement shader. ![]() To fake hand painting you need to have an high poly that will create your hand painted details and to bake a normal map on your generated UVs (and generated low poly with decimation + bool tool union) and to use diffuse colors to do your ID masks. The technique is to start with a fake hand painted base then to finish your texture in 3D paint so problems like bad seams placement and brush strokes bleeding will be less noticeable. ![]() Personally I never do retopology and UV mapping because you can get great result with decimation and Smart UVs project for static game assets, like you can see in this demo: įor the texel density a new auto-packing algorithm is in preparation in the Blender source code, for now it's an addon: would that be a bad thing? Or is that "the new normal" for current gen stuff that isn't hand-painted? Thanks. If I was working in the game industry, and produced an otherwise beautiful asset but the texture sheets are incomprehensible due to auto-unwrap and packing. There is a lot more material out there that looks more hand-tweaked and organized, but it's also frequently several years old. I have seen only one rather advanced, current gen tutorial where his unwrap seemed to have been automatic, and he just navigated the mess when working by hand in photoshop, for example. but when using a 3d painting program like mudbox for texturing, is it okay to skip the more painful parts of unwrapping and just use the auto unwrap? Obviously it will physically work, but the textures will be an unholy mess to look at for complicated objects. I've seen countless tutorials on how to unwrap, and I'm not having trouble with that specifically. Punctuated equilibrium Adaptive radiation Convergent evolution Gradualism. Adaptive radiations are also common where habitats are fragmented (e.g., by mountain ranges, rivers, etc.) Figure 2.17 A few Hawaiian Honeycreepers, illustrating how diversity can result from the adaptive radiation of species from a single founding species. Scientists studying an island chain discover several species of birds that are. honeycreeper birds, fruit flies, and silversword plants). There are many examples of adaptive radiation and endemism in island chains such as Galápagos (e.g., finches, mockingbirds, lava lizards, and Opuntia cactus) and Hawaii (e.g. All of these lizards are endemic to the archipelago-that is, they are found nowhere else in the world (Figure 2.15).Īdaptive radiation occurs when one ancestral species leads to several descendent species as new habitats are colonized. Thus, from one colonizing species, the archipelago now has several different species of what we call lava lizards. This pattern was then repeated throughout the islands, with migration, drift, mutation, and selection all acting differently on different island populations. After many generations of mutation, drift, and selection, the colonizing population was sufficiently different from the parent population to warrant classification as a different species. For example, an ancestral population of lizards, possibly from mainland South America, colonized the Galápagos islands (in the equatorial Pacific Ocean) millions of years ago. So much that they are considered separate species. ![]() ![]() How do island chains encourage adaptive radiation Adaptive radiation is facilitated by. In the Galpagos Islands, Darwin’s finches were formerly a single species. Over time, isolated populations of the same species can diverge Figure 2.16 An endemic lava lizard on one of the Galápagos Islands It’s called adaptive radiation when individuals of the same species separate themselves from the rest of the population by establishing distinct diets or living in various areas. Mutation and migration all play a role in generating diversity, and selection and drift eliminate some of this diversity. 2.15 Biodiversity & Adaptive Radiation Biodiversity is a product of evolutionary processes Also playing themselves are a rice farmer who donated her compensation for crops ruined by the rescue back to the government to support the operation a Chinese cave diving instructor, and divers from Finland and Canada, among others. Irish cave diver Jim Warny is one of several members of the rescue team who play themselves, and the only person in film who gets anything in the way of a backstory he lost a close friend in a cave diving accident, a bereavement which is clearly still raw. Indeed, the film devotes more time to the manufacturer of high spec water pumps whose attempts to help are repeatedly thwarted by a maze of bureaucracy every bit as labyrinthine as the cave system. Even so, we don’t get to meet the children’s relatives until a brief scene at the very end of the picture a curious decision which hampers the picture’s emotional impact. We get a glimpse of the children struggling to a place of safety through the rapid, churning water, but the focus is predominantly on the action above ground. The first hint of their plight comes from a ranger who spots the boys’ bikes and shoes left by the mouth of the cave as a sudden downpour floods the underground system. ![]() The boys and their coach kick a ball for a couple of shots and then climb on their bikes for their cave excursion. The initial set-up of the story is brisk almost to the point of being cursory. Add to this the fact that it was a hugely complex international operation with numerous moving parts which are difficult to wrangle into a feature-length production, and the issues which plague the film are quickly apparent. Written, directed and produced by Bangkok-born Thai-Irish filmmaker Tom Waller, The Cave suffers from the same issue which plagued Clint Eastwood’s The 15:17 To Paris – that casting real people as themselves in a dramatic reconstruction is no guarantee of the kind of performances which drive a film. Ongoing fascination with the rescue should ensure some interest in the film, particularly in Thailand, but the scope of the story might be better suited to the Netflix miniseries which is currently in development. In condensing the rescue into a feature script, Waller faced a challenge which, while not quite on the same scale as the rescue operation itself, is certainly a logistical headache. ![]() ![]() The fact that we already know the happy outcome of the incident is not the only reason that this film lacks tension.Ĭasting real people as themselves in a dramatic reconstruction is no guarantee of the kind of performances which drive a film Enlisting many of the real people who participated in the operation to appear as themselves, this no-frills account focuses on the rescue attempt rather than developing the children and their families into characters in the story. Although not entirely the filmmaker’s fault as the boys’ life rights were locked up almost as soon as they emerged safely from the cave, this ends up being a key omission. Source: Busan International Film Festivalįifteen months after 12 boys and their football coach were rescued from Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand, the first dramatisation of the event premieres at Busan. I loved it in all the shots with just him and the camera, but every sweglord shot made my think “really?” in my mind, like it always does. What is this, exactly? Did they run out of budget and just head to the nearest rooftop and tell a few girls off the street that this Asian guy wants to shoot a music video? Cause it seems like it and it’s pretty out of place, especially when the rest of it consists of shots like this. And unfortunately it has shots like this. The music video … well it has a lot of beautiful scenery. ![]() It’s not groundbreaking lyricism or rhyme schemes or anything, but in something that a lesser rapper would’ve just used to brag randomly (you know who), I found it interesting how he managed to fit in his justification for playing both sides of the coin and a lot of his career story, which helps make the whole effort at least one tick better. The latter exchange in particular could hit a sore spot for many, and not only idol rappers but also veterans in the industry who are now far more known for acting or variety shows than skills on the mic. Of particular interest were bars where he mocks ‘idiots’ who sign their lives over to companies for pennies because they’re desperate to buy bling, burns A&R teams with clever wordplay for having flop groups after namechecking his own, and pokes at rappers who have to turn to acting cause they lack the skills to make it as rappers. ![]() ![]() Rather, he proudly stakes claim to the middle ground and how he made it work. To the benefit of the lyrics, he doesn’t just brag about money to justify his status, and he also isn’t left exclusively sticking to the fact that he has underground hep-hap cred either. But that’s basic stuff for him at this point, so the parts I found most interesting were when he tried to define his exact niche that helps him claim being legit rapper and idol at the same time. The lyrics consist of a lot of typical braggadocio at first, like asking why a ‘wolf’ like him would associate with a bunch of ‘dogs’ like other idol rappers. Sure, Zico pronouncing the title sounds like “ready ready ready”, but Zico also just lets his talent and lyrics do the talking and stays away from swegtastic inflection and flow (which I don’t think is his strong suit). Other than that, it’s a rather no-frills rap song, which is to its benefit. The end is abrupt and you don’t really see it coming, which is a solid indicator that the song effectively used build and momentum throughout. ![]() The instrumental also includes multiple sound switches for the verses and even during individual verses themselves, all of which work well without being disjointed. I was worried that it would overwhelm the rapping, but it’s used really effectively, using loudness mainly during the chorus and post-chorus, while wisely taking a backseat to showcase Zico’s rapping during the verses. On the surface level, the beat is monstrous and it makes the track listenable even for people who aren’t necessarily Zico fans. Zico teamed up with DJ Wegun for “ VENI VIDI VICI“, which proved to be the right move for the release because the instrumental sets everything off. ![]() Thank you for simplifying the process of backing up my iMac. ![]() I truly appreciate all of the hard work you've put into developing this valuable utility.
